Girls’ Lacrosse: Rovzar shares MVP

Corona del Mar High junior midfielder Molly Rovzar earned a share of the Pacific Coast League MVP award and first-team All-Orange County honors after leading the girls’ lacrosse team to a share of the league championship and to the U.S. Lacrosse Southern Section South Division title match, the Sea Kings’ first appearance in school history.

Rovzar is joined on the first-team all-league by teammates Kylie Mulvaney, Gabby Smith and Kacie Kline.

Mulvaney, a junior defender, received first-team all-county honors and Smith, a senior midfielder, and Torrey Attyah, a senior attacker, were second-team all-county selections.

Aly Vislocky was named the All-Orange County Coach of the Year after guiding seventh-seeded CdM (17-4, 9-1 in league) through an impressive playoff run. The Sea Kings won three postseason games before losing to top-seeded Los Alamitos, 12-6, in the Orange County title game.

Rovzar, a repeat first-team all-league selection, finished with 62 goals, 10 assists and 50 groundballs. She forced 17 turnovers.

Mulvaney recorded 41 groundballs and forced 13 turnovers.

Smith, a repeat first-team all-league pick, produced 56 goals with 21 assists, 58 groundballs and 28 forced turnovers.

Kline, a sophomore midfielder, had 53 goals, 19 assists and 36 groundballs. She forced 23 turnovers.

Attyah and seniors Ally Brahs, Cassidy Napolitano and Sarah Hostetler each made the second-team all-league.

Sophomore Sabrina Smith and junior Meredith Davin were both honorable mentions.

Sailors’ recognized

Defensive midfielder Katie Donald is one of four Newport Harbor High juniors earning Academic All-American honors from the Orange County Chapter of U.S. Lacrosse.

The other three girls from Newport Harbor (3-16, 0-8 in Sunset League) are Nadine Leffler, Anna Newman and Hannah Vigil.

Donald also received second-team All-Orange County and first-team All-Sunset League honors. She finished with 66 groundballs, three goals and eight assists.

Juniors Kirsten Rohan and Taury Hlinka made second team all-league.
