Former Charger honored after strong first collegiate season

Christina Marquette, a 2011 graduate of Edison High who is a freshman at Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio, has been Newcomer of the Year in women’s basketball for the North Coast Athletic Conference and was also named second-team All-NCAC.
Marquette averaged 12.8 points, seven rebounds and 2.5 assists per game and shot 85.6% from the free-throw line during the season.

Harrington named All-American in football
David Harrington, a Marina High graduate who is now at Idaho State University, has been named to the American Football Coaches Assn. Football Championship Subdivision All-American Team as a punter. Harrington, a Walter Camp All-American in 2010, also was a punter at Orange Coast College in 2007 and 2008.

Kim medals at Taekwondo Championships
Claire Kim of Huntington Beach won a gold and silver medal at the 21st annual US Open Taekwondo Championships, held Feb. 21-24 in Las Vegas. Kim and competition partner Jason Hwang won gold in 30-99 Coed Black division and she took an individual silver in the Poomsae 30-39 Black (Senior 2) division.
