COSTA MESA — The host Lions swept the No. 9-ranked Firebirds, 25-15, 25-19, 25-18, behind seven kills from senior KaUwila Lavea in Golden State Athletic Conference action Saturday.
Jamie Heenan had five kills to help No. 13-ranked Vanguard improve to 21-10, 10-6 in conference.

OCEANSIDE — Christopher Raybon paced the Lions with 16 points and two steals in a nonconference road loss Saturday night. Vanguard was outscored, 49-28, in the second half after trailing by just four points at halftime.

SAN BERNARDINO — Freshman Chelsea Clifford finished fifth and sophomore Analicia Silva was sixth to lead Orange Coast College to a second-place team finish Saturday at San Bernardino Valley College.
Clifford completed the 3.1-mile course in 18 minutes, 11.6 seconds, just more than 16 seconds behind individual champion Karen Rosas from Glendale.
Silva’s time was 18:12.71 as five Pirates finished in the top 36.
Sophomore Grace Adams-Handy (23rd in 18:53.92), freshman Carmille Garcia (30th in 19:10.49) and sophomore Sulema Sanchez (36th in 19:18.97) also stood out for OCC.
OCC’s cumulative time was nearly three minutes slower than victorious Glendale.’

Southern California Regional Championships
SAN BERNARDINO — Orange Coast College finished fifth, led by three runners in the top 30 on Saturday at San Bernardino Valley College.
OCC sophomore Hugo Gutierrez completed the four-mile course in 20 minutes, 55.92 seconds to place 21st.
Sophomore Zackary Ellis (29th in 21:05.84), freshman Austin Little (30th in 21:06.85), freshman Matt Bottomley (38th in 21:15.46) and sophomore Michael Taylor (44th in 21:20.61) also performed well for the Pirates.
San Bernardino Valley won the team event and Daniel Herrera, a freshman from Cerritos, won the individual title in 19:58.60.
