Briefs: Senior honored again

UC Irvine senior Kari Pestolesi has been named first-team All-Big West Conference in women’s volleyball for a fourth straight year.
Pestolesi, a 5-foot-11 outside hitter, leads the Anteaters with 293 kills and is second on the team in digs with 341.
Her 14 aces rank third on the team.
She is second in UCI annals in career kills (1,590) and digs (1,480) and ranks third in aces (130).
Pestolesi is the lone all-conference honoree for the Anteaters (7-22, 3-13 in conference).
UC Irvine concludes its season Saturday at 7 p.m. against Akron at Crawford Court.

Lions’ Mendez honored
Vanguard University senior defender Ivana Mendez has been named All-Golden State Athletic Conference in women’s soccer.
Mendez, a repeat honoree, helped the Lions (8-6-4, 2-5-3 in conference) post seven shutouts and allow just 16 goals in 18 games.
One of four players to start every game for Coach Randy Dodge, she had eight goals, second-best on the team, and a team-leading six assists.
Her 22 points also ranked second on the team.
Vanguard senior Jessica Castro was recognized among 26 players who were named Golden State Athletic Conference Scholar-Athletes.
