LA VERNE — The Estancia High boys’ water polo team finished the season in the same fashion it did a year ago.
The Eagles lost in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division III playoffs.
Second-seeded Damien of La Verne eliminated the Eagles with a 20-9 home victory Wednesday.
“Eight guys on their team scored,” said Estancia Coach John Carpenter, adding that his team fell behind the Spartans, 15-4, at halftime. “They have a lot of depth.”
Senior Charlie Umansky led Estancia with eight goals. Senior Asher Twardowski added a goal. Senior goalie Conner Graham made 11 saves.
The Eagles finished the year at 19-7, matching their win total from 2009.
Carpenter, who will lose five starters to graduation, feels optimistic about next year.
“We had a very good JV team,” said Carpenter, who led the Eagles to a second-place finish in the Orange Coast League. “We will not totally be rebuilding next year.”
