Newport doubles
Newport Harbor High girls’ tennis teams earned the top three seeds in doubles for the Sunset League individual finals beginning today at the Seal Beach Tennis center.
Rikki Archie and Christina Young are seeded No. 1 with Megan Bathen and Mindy Wheeler (No. 2) and the duo of Alex Aiello and Riley Mathies (No. 3) rounding out the top contenders.
Natalie Cernuis (No. 3 seed), Blake Bakkila (No. 4) and Lauren Conway (No. 7) are the singles seeds for the league-champion Sailors, who finished 10-0 in league play.
The finals continue Thursday.

GIRLS’ CROSS COUNTRY
Academy League Championships
ORANGE – Sophomore Sophia Witte finished in third place in 21 minutes, 12 seconds, helping the Lightning place second at the Academy League championships at Irvine Regional Park on Tuesday.
Sage Hill’s Naomi Granados finished eighth (22:08), followed by Rannah Dabiri (12th, 22:41).
St. Margaret’s won the league title.
Next for the Lightning are the CIF Southern Section Division V preliminaries at Mt. San Antonio College on Nov. 13.
BOYS’ CROSS COUNTRY
Academy League Championships
ORANGE – Senior Alemar Brito placed eighth in 17 minutes, 21 seconds as Sage Hill finished second at the Academy League championships at Irvine Regional Park on Tuesday.
Two other Sage Hill runners finished in the top 10. Chris Andras was ninth (17:26) and Jack Percival was 10th (17:38).
Sage will compete at the CIF Southern Section Division V preliminaries at Mt. SAC on Nov. 13.
