Surf City’s Thompson captures title

Shaun Thompson of Huntington Beach won the Open Longboard division of the third contest of the National Scholastic Surfing Assn. 2010-11 Open Season on Oct. 17 at the Del Mar Jetty at Camp Pendleton.

Thompson, a points leader in the division, landed some clean backside noserides and helicopters in flawless conditions to earn ride scores of 9.0 and 8.0. It was the second win of the Open Season for Thompson, who finished ahead of Jason Schechter of San Diego and third-place Nathan Thompson, younger brother of Shaun, of Huntington Beach.

In other division action involving local athletes, Derek Peters (Huntington Beach) was third in Open Mens and Ben Seaberry (Huntington Beach) was fourth in Open Mini Groms.

The NSSA Southwest Open Season’s fourth event is Saturday and Sunday at the Oceanside Pier.

HVLL registration dates set

Huntington Valley Little League will hold in-person registration for its 2011 season on two upcoming dates, Nov. 20 and Dec. 11. Registration is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at league fields ((9191 Pioneer Ave., Huntington Beach).

Youth baseball clinics offered

Lifeletics Baseball is offering three dates for its new Group Skills Clinics. The Beginning Baseball Session II Clinic, an introductory program for youth ages four to seven, is Nov. 15.

The Thanksgiving Position Skills Clinic is Nov. 25 and allows participants the chance to choose their position and work through a variety of advanced training schemes. The Winter Camp, set for Dec. 20, is a two-week camp for youth ages five to 13. The cost is $249 per camper. For information on all clinics, call (714) 843-1989.
