The Vanguard University women’s soccer team dropped a nonconference home match against the University of Northwestern Ohio on Thursday, falling 2-1 against last year’s NAIA champion.

The Lions (0-2), who were ranked No. 3 in the NAIA Coaches’ Preseason Top 25 Poll, were taking on the No. 1-seeded Racers, who are now 4-0.

All of the match’s scoring occurred in the first half, with UNOH’s Camilla Andersen notching goals in the fifth and 20th minutes. Vanguard’s Anna Montemor got her team in the game with a goal in the 29th minute, thanks to assists from Kim Benner and Sabrina Spink, but the Lions failed to get the equalizer from then on.
