Stadick, Tuaniga represent Team USA in U-21 World Championship

UC Irvine men’s volleyball standout Scott Stadick, as well as former Huntington Beach High star Josh Tuaniga are on the 12-player roster for the 2017 junior national team that will compete in the Federation Internationale de Volleyball Under-21 World Championship, Friday through July 7 in the Czech Republic.

Stadick, a 7-foot middle blocker who was the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Freshman of the Year in 2017, helped the junior national team win the NORCECA Continental Championship in 2016.

Tuaniga, an All-American setter as a sophomore at Long Beach State in 2017, was also on the team that won the NORCECA Continental Championship last year.

The United States has never won a medal at the FIVB Under-21 World Championship. Its top finish in the event was fourth in 2011, Team USA was 11th in 2015 and 2013.

The team is guided by George Mason coach Jay Hosack, a former UC Irvine assistant coach.

The United States is in Pool B with Russia, Turkey and Cuba. There are 16 teams in the event.

Team USA meets Turkey on Friday at 11 a.m. PT. It faces Cuba on Saturday at 6 a.m. and meets Russia on Sunday at 11 a.m.
