High school roundup: Solano leads Costa Mesa boys’ golf to season-opening win
Senior Jimmy Solano earned individual medalist honors by shooting a two-over-par 38, helping the Costa Mesa High boys’ golf team edge Tustin 229-234 in a season opener at Tustin Ranch Golf Club on Monday.
Costa Mesa’s Huy Ngo had a 42, followed by Blake Juncker (46), Cooper Crandall (49) and Ryan Juncker (54).
The Mustangs host Tustin at Costa Mesa Country Club on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
Sage Hill 212, Newport Harbor 229: Senior Brandon Tse was the individual medalist after recording a one-over-par 36 for the Lightning in a season opener at Strawberry Farms Golf Club in Irvine on Monday.
Newport Harbor junior Campbell Norris had a 40. Sam Thayer shot a 42 and Billy Shannon a 44.
Ayala Tournament
Sophomore Tiger Tahvildari’s two-under-par 72 and junior Pete DiBernardo’s 75 led Edison to a third-place showing in the Ayala Tournament on the South Course at Los Serranos Country Club in Chino Hills on Monday.
Palm Desert won the 18-team event with a 363, Mater Dei took second at 378, and Edison was third at 382.
Danny Smith shot a 74 for Huntington Beach, which produced a 393.
