Breakdown: Edison’s title defense begins with one of Week Zero’s big-name matchups. The CIF Southern Section Division 3 champions open the season as the top-ranked team in Division 2. The Chargers travel to Tesoro after taking care of the Titans at home, 31-14, last year…On offense, the Chargers look very similar to a season ago when they went 13-2 in reaching the CIF State Southern California Division 1A Regional against San Clemente. Quarterback Griffin O’Connor and running back Jack Carmichael return for their senior years to man the backfield. O’Connor committed to Yale last week…After recovering from a torn ACL, wide receiver David Atencio returned for the final 10 games (including playoffs). Over that span, he averaged 70.4 yards per game. His average of 16 yards per catch paces all returning Chargers…Senior quarterback Chase Petersen, a one-time Mission Viejo Diablo, leads Tesoro in his third season with the Titans.
