SACRAMENTO — Senior Camille Buckley had 22 points and 10 rebounds to lead four Anteaters who scored in double figures in the nonconference road game Saturday.
Buckley made nine of 12 field-goal attempts and all four free throws as UCI lost a 55-53 halftime lead.
Senior guard Jennifer Tsurumoto had 19 points and a team-best seven assists, while senior reserve Vanessa Aguilar made four of seven there-point tries on her way to 16 points and senior Jazmyne White chipped in 12 points, nine rebounds, four assists and two steals.
UCI shot 52% from the field (39 for 75) and was eight for 20 from three-point range. They posted a 46-41 rebounding edge but lost the turnover battle, 21-16.
The host Hornets are 7-1, while UCI, which has lost two straight and three of its last four, falls to 5-5.
UCI plays host to New Mexico State on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
