Rowing: Newport Aquatic Center dominates Christmas Regatta in Long Beach

The Newport Aquatic Center rowers garnered great success at the Christmas Regatta hosted by Long Beach Rowing Assn. on Sunday.
The NAC boys’ team participated in an 850-meter sprint race against teams from the southwest region at the Long Beach Marine Stadium, site of the olympic rowing venue at the 1932 Olympics.
With seven wins, NAC delivered a dominant performance, a good indicator that the team could have a strong showing in the spring.
Nick D’Antoni, Pat Gleason, Marcel Stiffey and Austin Brooks coach the boys’ team.
Max Clemence and Alex Lobel won gold in the varsity double in 2 minutes, 48.6 seconds.
The NAC Varsity 4 “A” team of coxswain Marley Avritt, Micah Adelsohn, Angus Batstone, Reid Rolfes and Patrick Klingensmith won in 2:41:1.
The Varsity 4 “B” team of coxswain Ethan Ruiz, Jackie Choumas, Alex Lobel, Max Clemence and Daniel Ross won in 2:46.5.
The Varsity 4 “C” team of coxswain Zach Casler, Austin Moore, Jordan Teisan, Harrison Grant, David Zachary won in 2:44.8.
The Varsity 8 team of coxswain Ryan Zahed, Matt Kaloroumakis, David Groke, Joe Hume, Kyle Gallogly, Adam Freeman, Ryan Brummelen, Sam Skinner and Sam Launder won in 2:32:5.
Coxswain Noah Ward, JT Russell, Anthony Morrell, Caleb O’Neill and Parker Monroe won the Novice 4 race in 2:48:5.
Coxswain Noah Ward, Frank Choumas, Anthony Morrell, Zack Spitz, Simon Dillon, Holden Cohen, Will Fowler, Luc Levine and Harley Zeiper won the Novice 8 race for NAC in 2:35:8.
