Costa Mesa cheer dominates

The Costa Mesa High and Middle School cheerleading teams dominated at their first competition of the year last weekend.

Costa Mesa High’s cheer team finished as Grand Master champions. The Mustangs also earned highest score of the competition, first-place varsity competition routine, first-place varsity rally routine, first-place varsity hip hop, first-place lyrical solo, first, second, third varsity stunt, third-place tumbling, first and third varsity leaps, first, second varsity kicks, first-place jumps, first, second, third-place varsity turns, top two spectator performers, and two spirit sticks.

Varsity swept the entire high school stunt division, varsity swept high school turns division. Also Margarita Kat-Kat Cruz swept all dance divisions- kicks, turns, leaps and jumps - all first places.

The Costa Mesa middle school team came away with first-place rally routine, third middle school stunt, first-place middle school leaps, first and second turns and first, second and third-place kicks.

Costa Mesa took home 25 trophies and medals, the most the Mustangs have ever come home with.
