RIVERSIDE — The host Highlanders scored in the 35th minute in the Anteaters’ Big West Conference opener on Thursday.
The Anteaters (4-6-2, 0-1-0 in conference) posted a 10-9 advantage in shots, with eight players contributing in that department.
But UCR (6-4-3, 1-1-1) got the game-winner from Brittany Mata adn Elizabeth Silas had four saves to record the shutout.

Vanguard 3, San Diego Christian 1
EL CAJON — The visiting No. 13-ranked Lions overcame a 1-0 deficit in the Golden State Athletic Conference contest on Wednesday.
Ashley McCutcheon, Sara Reed and Madison Cody scored consecutive goals for Vanguard (10-1-1, 3-1 in conference), while Jennifer Martin had the winners’ lone assist.
Lauren Terry had four saves for the Lions.
San Diego Christian is 4-5-1, 2-3.

EL CAJON — Luis Valdivia scored for Vanguard in the 72nd minute to force two overtime periods, but the hosts netted the game-winner in the 105th minute of the Golden State Athletic Conference game Wednesday.
Zac Way’s unassisted goal gave the Lions (6-5, 2-2 in conference), a 1-0 lead. Valdivia scored on a penalty kick.
San Diego Christian is 2-9-1, 1-3-1.
