High School Roundup: CdM boys’ soccer finishes as unbeaten league champion

IRVINE — John O’Connor and Camden Blower each recorded goals on Wednesday, as the visiting Sea Kings wrapped up their unbeaten Pacific Coast League title.
CdM, which finished 8-0-2 in league, has won three league championships in five seasons under Coach George Larsen.
The Sea Kings (14-3-4 overall) start the CIF Southern Section Division 3 playoffs next week. They learn of their first-round opponent on Monday, when the playoffs pairing are released.
Jay Damon helped CdM shut out its third straight opponent.

Alan Alcantara scored for the Sailors in overtime of the Sunset League game Wednesday.
Jose Garfias assisted on the goal. Goalie Victor Negrete made four saves for Newport Harbor (5-4-1 in league), which finished third to qualify for the CIF Southern Section playoffs.

Estancia 3, Calvary Chapel 0
Alondra Guzman, Brandi White and Delani Guyot each scored goals on Wednesday, helping Estancia finish second in Orange Coast League play.
Goalkeeper Gianna Guyot made four saves in the shutout.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
Estancia 65, Calvary Chapel 22
Senior guard Celia Duran finished with 20 points, four three-pointers and five assists on Wednesday, ensuring the host Eagles claimed their third outright Orange Coast League title in four seasons.
The Eagles (23-3, 9-1 in league) learn of their opponent in the CIF Southern Section Division 3A playoffs on Sunday, when the section releases the playoff pairings.
Bryanna Vernon had 12 points on four three-pointers for Estancia, which closed out the regular season with nine straight victories to repeat as champion.
Michelle Simmons had 13 points and eight rebounds.

Sophomore guard McKenna Izzi had 14 points and two three-pointers in the Sailors’ Sunset League finale on the Wednesday night.
Bela Raimondi played well defensively for the host Sailors (7-16, 0-10 in league).

Girls’ Water Polo
Laguna Beach 23, Costa Mesa 1
Melissa Folkerts scored for Costa Mesa which was upended at Laguna Beach in an Orange Coast League finale for both teams Wednesday. The Mustangs finished 2-2 in league play, good for third place.
Laguna, the top-ranked team in CIF Southern Section Division 1, clinched an outright league championship with the victory. Junior utility Makenzie Fischer scored a game-high four goals for the Breakers who finished league play 4-0 and improved to 25-1 overall.
