Briefs: ‘Eaters add recruit
Mokun Fajemisin, a 5-foot-11 senior forward at Lynnwood High in Lynnwood, Wash. has signed a national letter of intent to play women’s basketball at UC Irvine, Coach Molly Goodenbour has announced.
Fajemisin averaged 17 points, 10 rebounds, three blocked shots and two assists as a junior for the Royals, earning first-team All-Wesco 3-A honors.
“Mokun is an extremely athletic forward with tremendous potential,” Goodenbour said in a statement. “She is a motivated worker who should excel in our program.”
Fajemisin’s older brother, Simi Fajemisin is a 6-10 redshirt freshman in the University of San Diego men’s basketball program.

UCI adds attackers
Victoria Dennis, a 6-foot-4 outside hitter, and 6-2 outside hitter Sydney Wright have signed national letters of intent to play collegiately at UC Irvine.
Dennis, a senior at Bonita High, and Wright, a senior at Chaminade High, are Prepvolleyball.com’s list of senior aces and were on the American Volleyball Coaches’ Assn. preseason All-American watch lists.
“We are very excited about the signing of Victoria and Sydney,” said Ben Bodipo-Memba, a UCI assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. “They will both play a huge role in the future of this program.”
The two should help improve a stable of attackers that were hitting a combined .152 with one regular-season match remaining in 2011.

Squires earns nod
UC Irvine sophomore Aly Squires received honorable mention in voting for All-Big West Conference women’s volleyball honors.
Squires, a 6-foot-1 outside hitter, led UCI (10-18, 4-12 in conference) in kills with 355, which ranked seventh in the Big West.
She is second on the team with 329 digs and third with 67 blocks.
