GLENDALE — The visiting No. 3-seeded Sailors survived a scare in the second round of the CIF Southern Section Division II playoffs on Monday at Scholl Canyon Tennis Club.
Holly Hovnanian and Kaitlyn Cozenza swept, 6-1, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 3 doubles to lead the Sailors (18-1), who advance to the quarterfinals on Tuesday to face either Canyon of Anaheim or Arcadia.
Sailors singles standout Blake Bakkila did not play due to a sprained ankle, Coach Kristen Case said.
Tuesday’s match would either be at Arcadia or home against Canyon.

SAN GABRIEL — The No. 4-seeded Lightning prevailed in the second round of the CIF Southern Section Division IV playoffs on Monday.
Liana Korber swept at No. 1 singles, while Sage also received sweeps from doubles teams Katie Bick and Rian Billingsley, as well as Casey Astorino and Lauren Hsu.
Sage (21-4) makes a quick turnaround. It visits Arroyo Grande Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the quarterfinals.
