Wobrock to Hawaii
Austin Wobrock, a sophomore infielder for the Orange Coast College baseball team in 2012 who also played at Newport Harbor High, has signed a letter of intent to continue his career at the University of Hawaii.
Wobrock played mostly third base for the Pirates (36-7-1), who he helped win their first outright Orange Empire Conference title since 1987 and reach the four-team state tournament. He hit .250 in 72 at-bats, appearing in 30 games. He had three runs batted in and two stolen bases.
As an OCC freshman in 2011, Wobrock hit .292 with eight RBIs in 106 at-bats.
As a senior shortstop at Newport Harbor, he hit .395 with 14 RBIs, one home run, 10 doubles and nine stolen bases to help the Sailors reach the CIF Southern Section playoffs for the first time in 20 years. He earned second-team All-Sunset League honors.
Hawaii, which has been competing in the Western Athletic Conference, will join the Big West Conference in sports other than football for the 2012-13 school year.
