EUGENE, Ore. — UC Irvine junior Charles Jock advanced to Friday’s quarterfinals in the 800 meters.
Jock finished second in his first-round heat Thursday in 1 minute, 48.96 seconds, the sixth-fastest time in the field of 24 that advanced to the quarterfinals.
Friday’s 800 quarterfinals begin at 5:05 p.m. at Hayward Field. The top 12 following that round will move on to the semifinals at the NCAA Championships in Des Moines, Iowa, June 8-11.
UCI senior Colin Hacker (3:49.94) and junior Sam Hyams (3:57.25) did not advance in the 1,500 meters Thursday.
Junior Nick Jennings did not advance in the pole vault after missing three attempts at his opening height of 16-6 3/4.
Anteater senior Matt Lahti competes in the hammer throw Friday at 3:30 p.m.

EUGENE, Ore. — UC Irvine’s Alisha Misiaita and Ericka Nowell did not advance from the first round Thursday.
Misiaita, a senior, had a best throw of 47 feet, 9 inches in the shot put as she placed 30th in the field of 48.
Nowell, a sophomore, ran 60.57 in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing 27th of 48 overall in the opening round.
Senior Madeline LeDuc competes in the triple jump Friday beginning at 3:15 p.m.
