COSTA MESA — Sophomore guard Taylor Belmont had a team-high 14 points as the Lions won in the opening round of the Golden State Athletic Conference tournament Wednesday night at The Pit.
Junior Esther Timmermans had 13 points and 10 rebounds, recording a double-double for No. 3-seeded Vanguard (23-5).
Alison Drennan and Allison Burns added eight and seven points, respectively, for the Lions, who play at No. 2-seeded Azusa Pacific in the GSAC semifinals Friday night.

Orange Empire Conference match
DOWNEY — Orange Coast College shot a team score of 380, winning the competition among the eight conference teams Wednesday at Rio Hondo Country Club.
OCC’s Jaime Moreno shot two-over-par 73, tying two other golfers for medalist honors.
Mike Squillace (74), Chris Cochran (77), Justin Soph (78), Zach Eddy (78) and Kyle Frame (84) also scored for the Pirates.
Santiago Canyon finished in second place with a team score of 384, followed by Cypress with a 385.
The Pirates return to action for their next conference match Monday at Tijeras Creek.

COSTA MESA — Estancia High product Amy Hartwell was two for three for the Pirates in the Orange Empire Conference game Wednesday at OCC.
Kayla Blanco, Daae Cantu and Whitney Day added hits for the Pirates (4-13, 0-5 in concerence).
Saddleback improved to 12-4, 3-2.
