Surfers’ videos deadline is Friday

The O’Neill Coldwater Classic is accepting video submissions from non-sponsored surfers through Friday for the chance to win a wild-card entry into the event, which is in its second year.

The classic will be run between Oct. 28-Nov. 1 at Steamer Lane in Santa Cruz.

The Assn. of Surfing Professionals (ASP) specialty event will give 16 non-sponsored professional surfers the chance to win an exclusive O’Neill Wetsuits contract worth $50,000 in travel incentives and contest fees.

To apply, surfers must provide a 30-second unedited action video representing his best surfing capabilities, a head shot and a completed application.

All submissions will be reviewed by a panel of judges, with four being selected for an Online Public Voting phase from Sept. 30-Oct. 6. The surfer in the one video receiving the most votes will earn the wild-card invitation.

Registration open for Surf City event

Registration is now open for the 19th annual Surf City USA Marathon & Half Marathon.

The annual event is Feb. 1 (Super Bowl Sunday) on Pacific Coast Highway in Huntington Beach. The race draws more than 21,000 participants each year and serves as a qualifying race for the Boston Marathon.
