High School Roundup: Fountain Valley football runs through El Toro

Senior running back Abdel Habibeh had a pair of rushing touchdowns, leading Fountain Valley in its 38-0 win over visiting El Toro on Thursday in a nonleague football game at Huntington Beach High.
Junior quarterback Noa Banua threw for three touchdowns, connecting with senior tight end Scott Peshke, senior wide receiver Luke Crosby and sophomore wide receiver Nolan Olivares on the scoring plays. Olivares connected on all five extra-point kicks and added a late field goal.
Senior defensive end Fernando Garcia blocked a punt for Fountain Valley (2-1), and senior middle linebacker Caine Elroy jumped on the loose ball for the recovery.
El Toro dropped to 0-3 on the season.
The Barons play host to Marina on Friday, Sept. 9, at Huntington Beach High.
Wildomar Elsinore 28, Marina 18: Junior running back Julian Santoyo rushed for 116 yards and a touchdown, as the host Tigers ran past the Vikings on Thursday in a nonleague game.
Senior Mykai Skinner also carried the ball 11 times for 85 yards for Elsinore (2-1), which rushed for 349 yards and three touchdowns as a team.
Marina fell to 0-2 overall.
GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL
Santa Margarita 3, Edison 2: Summer Witherby had 18 kills, 10 digs and two service aces, but the Chargers succumbed to a late rally by the host Eagles in a 22-25, 25-9, 20-25, 25-20, 15-9 loss Thursday in the Trinity-Sunset League Showcase.
Adia McCown contributed 16 kills, 12 digs and four aces for Edison (7-10). Makenna Jackson provided 22 digs, and Molly McCluskey also had 16 digs.
Mater Dei 3, Huntington Beach 0: Haylee LaFontaine had 10 kills, but the Oilers took their first loss of the season, falling to the host Monarchs 25-21, 25-14, 25-16 on Thursday in the Trinity-Sunset League Showcase.
Junior outside hitter Isabel Clark had 10 kills for Mater Dei (3-2).
Huntington Beach (7-1) plays at Corona del Mar in a Sunset Conference crossover match on Sept. 8.
St. Margaret’s 3, Costa Mesa 0: The Tartans swept the Mustangs 25-19, 25-16, 25-8 on Thursday in an Orange Coast League match at Costa Mesa High.
Costa Mesa (4-6, 0-2) plays at Orange on Tuesday.
Estancia 3, Santa Ana Valley 1: The host Eagles rallied after dropping the first set, taking the match by a count of 17-25, 25-20, 29-27, 25-13 on Thursday in nonleague play.
Estancia ran its overall record to 8-0.
Beckman 3, Laguna Beach 1: The Breakers had their two-match winning streak snapped by the Patriots, who triumphed by a score of 25-18, 25-20, 18-25, 25-18 on Thursday in a nonleague match at Laguna Beach High.
Eva Travis had 17 kills for Laguna Beach (4-3), and Kyra Zaengle also had 11 kills.
Capistrano Valley Christian 3, Pacifica Christian Orange County 0: Mikenna Henjum had seven kills, six digs and two service aces to lead the visiting Eagles over the Tritons 25-17, 25-14, 25-13 on Thursday in a San Joaquin League match.
BOYS’ WATER POLO
Corona del Mar 16, Long Beach Wilson 10: The Sea Kings bounced back from a season-opening defeat to Foothill with Thursday’s nonleague victory on the road.
Corona del Mar (1-1) will compete in the Santa Barbara Invitational next week.
Sage Hill 18, Garden Grove 4: The Lightning won convincingly in a nonleague season opener at home on Thursday.
GIRLS’ TENNIS
Edison 10, Tesoro 8: The Chargers earned a narrow victory over the Titans in a nonleague match on Thursday at home.
Segerstrom 16, Estancia 2: The Eagles took the loss in their home opener on Thursday in a nonleague contest.
Estancia dropped to 0-2 to start the season.
Fountain Valley 13, Placentia Valencia 5: The Barons ran their record to 2-0 in nonleague play on Thursday at home.
Fountain Valley plays host to Trabuco Hills on Tuesday.
Marina 12, Bolsa Grande 6: The Vikings snapped a two-match losing streak with a nonleague win over the Matadors on Thursday on the road.
Marina (2-2) welcomes Palos Verdes to its courts on Tuesday.
Mission Viejo 14, Ocean View 4: The Seahawks fell to the Diablos at home on Thursday in their nonleague season opener.
Sage Hill 13, Cypress 5: The Lightning improved to 4-0 overall with a win over the Centurions on Thursday in a nonleague match at home.
GIRLS’ GOLF
Edison 173, Brea Olinda 199: The Chargers put together back-to-back wins for the first time this season with a nonleague result on Thursday at Brea Creek Golf Course.
Edison (3-1) travels to take on Orange Lutheran at Black Gold Golf Club in Yorba Linda on Tuesday.
Fountain Valley 192, Long Beach Millikan 218: The host Barons completed the home-and-home sweep of the Rams on Thursday in a nonleague match at Mile Square Golf Course.
Fountain Valley (4-0) has beaten three Moore League foes so far this season, also notching wins over Long Beach Poly and Long Beach Wilson.
Pacifica Christian Orange County 213, Cerritos Valley Christian 235: The Tritons topped the Defenders to end a two-match skid in nonleague play on Thursday at Newport Beach Golf Course.
Pacifica Christian (2-2) begins its San Joaquin League schedule against Claremont Webb on Tuesday.
