High School Roundup: Sage Hill girls’ basketball earns big win over Orangewood Academy

Kat Righeimer had 19 points and eight rebounds to lead the Sage Hill School girls’ basketball team over Orangewood Academy 47-42 on Tuesday in a San Joaquin League game at home.
Orangewood Academy (11-4, 0-1) entered the week ranked No. 7 in the CIF Southern Section Division 1 poll. Sage Hill is No. 4 in Division 2AA.
Emily Eadie had 10 points, 10 rebounds and three assists for Sage Hill (13-7, 1-1). Isabel Gomez had 10 points and four rebounds, and Annabelle Spotts contributed six points and six rebounds.
Corona del Mar 59, Huntington Beach 34: Makena Tomlinson scored a game-high 17 points to pace the Sea Kings on Tuesday in a Surf League opener on the road.
Dorothy Schwenck added 12 points, all of which were scored from the three-point line, for CdM (9-8). Haley Esquino also scored 10 points.
Isobel Melitas had eight points to lead Huntington Beach (7-9). Lily Alonso and Ashley Dean each scored six points.
Saddleback 40, Estancia 24: Mackenzie Sanchez had 11 points and 11 rebounds for the host Eagles in Tuesday’s Orange Coast League game.
Estancia is now 8-7 overall and 0-2 in league.
Laguna Beach 40, Marina 13: Kate Cheng had 18 points and 10 rebounds to lead the visiting Breakers on Tuesday in a Wave League opener.
Alexandra Grombchevsky scored 10 points for Laguna Beach (15-5). Kenna Rudolph added three points, nine rebounds, four steals and three assists.
Marina fell to 5-13 on the season.
Newport Harbor 52, Edison 26: Chase Dionio scored 20 points to go with five steals and three assists, as the host Sailors doubled up the Chargers on Tuesday in a Wave League opener.
Cydney Jover added eight points, four steals and three assists for Newport Harbor (14-5), and Emma Fults contributed seven points and eight rebounds.
Mia Cassel had 10 points and five rebounds for Edison (7-14). Kat Rumsey chipped in with eight points.
GIRLS’ WATER POLO
Santa Ana 5, Fountain Valley 2: The visiting Barons dropped to 9-4 overall after being defeated in a low-scoring affair on Tuesday in nonleague play.
Los Amigos 13, Bolsa Grande 10: The Lobos picked up their first win of the season on Tuesday in a Garden Grove League game on the road.
Los Amigos improved to 1-5 overall and 1-0 in league play.
Marina 18, Kennedy 4: The Vikings earned a lopsided win in Tuesday’s nonleague road game.
Marina (4-10) begins Wave League play against Edison (4-6) on Thursday.
GIRLS’ SOCCER
Los Alamitos 3, Edison 1: The Griffins, ranked No. 8 in Division 1, were triumphant in Tuesday’s Surf League opener at Edison High School.
Kaylee Noble, Amelia Abusham and Delilah Kishek each scored a goal for Los Alamitos (9-3-5).
Edison (9-6-1) hosts CdM on Thursday.
Estancia 6, Saddleback 1: The Eagles earned their second straight rout to open Orange Coast League play on Tuesday at home.
Estancia (4-8, 2-0) plays at Santa Ana on Thursday, before a rescheduled road match at crosstown rival Costa Mesa on Monday.
Newport Harbor 2, Fountain Valley 1: Laine Briggs scored twice for the Sailors in their Wave League opener Tuesday at Newport Harbor High.
Stella Gaffney and Sadie Hoch had assists for Newport Harbor (6-8-4), and goalkeeper Emily Park had two saves.
Karlee Giuntoli scored on a free kick for Fountain Valley (5-6-3).
Newport Harbor plays at Marina on Thursday, while Fountain Valley travels to Laguna Beach.
Marina 2, Laguna Beach 1: The Vikings edged the Breakers in both teams’ Wave League opener Tuesday at Marina High.
Marina improved to 5-4-2 this season, while Laguna Beach dropped to 2-5-2.
Ocean View 4, Segerstrom 0: Isis Salazar scored all four goals for the Seahawks in Tuesday’s Golden West League match at home.
The Seahawks improved to 7-3-1 overall and 3-0 in league.
BOYS’ BASKETBALL
Ocean View 79, Westminster 51: Chico Lopez scored 19 points to lead the Seahawks in Tuesday’s Golden West League opener at Ocean View High.
Peyton Guerrero added 17 points for Ocean View (10-6), which continues league play when it hosts Katella on Friday.
