Teen who jumped from bridge identified
Authorities have identified the 19-year-old who died Thursday after jumping at least 20 feet from a bridge into a flood control channel as Jonathan Benjamin Ludlow of Costa Mesa.
He jumped into the channel from Baker Street, east of Bristol Street, around 7:30 a.m., officials said.
Paramedics took Ludlow to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana, where he was initially listed in stable condition but died later that day, Lt. Bryan Glass said.
Police don’t know if Ludlow was trying to commit suicide, Glass said, but he plunged from the railing of his own accord.
Ludlow’s death was caused by multiple traumatic injuries after a high fall, said Daniel Aikin, supervising deputy coroner for the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.
