The Newport-Mesa Unified School District trustees unanimously elected Karen Yelsey as president during an organizational meeting Tuesday night.
The board also voted to begin the twice-monthly meetings an hour earlier, starting at 6 p.m. in January.
Yelsey, who served as board vice president this year, will replace Trustee Dana Black as president in 2014.
Yelsey has served on the school board since 2006, representing the Corona del Mar area. She was the board president in 2010.
Trustee Martha Fluor was elected as vice president. Fluor, who represents the Estancia High School area of Costa Mesa, most recently was board president in 2008 and vice president in 2007.
Trustee Judy Franco was reelected as clerk.
