An automatic sprinkler system in a multifamily structure near downtown Huntington Beach extinguished a fire and prevented further damage to the building, according to authorities.
The Huntington Beach Fire Department responded to a report that a sprinkler system in one unit had activated around 5:15 p.m. Wednesday in the 400 block of Townsquare Lane.
According to a statement by the department, the fire had been doused by the sprinklers by the time first responders arrived. Fire crews helped salvage items and remove standing water from within the residential structure.
Authorities said the unit where the fire originated sustained smoke and water damage. A neighboring unit also incurred water damage.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
