TOW to start after-school reading program
Top of the World Elementary School in Laguna Beach will hold an intensive after-school literacy program for students identified as “struggling readers” starting in late October.
Director of Special Education and Student Services Irene White said the program is meant to add to the current in-school reading intervention programs.
“The truth is that the school day is only so long and providing additional instruction is often challenging,” she said in a release.
Students will participate in the “Fast ForWord” program four days per week for 12 weeks, according to the release. Students will also get supplemental instruction using other materials based on their individual needs.
White said the a grant of from the Donegan Burns Foundation will pay for a resource specialist, instructional assistant and an administrator to run the program.
