Cyclist critical after collision with car

A female bicyclist was in critical condition Tuesday after a collision with a Toyota Prius at Newport Coast Drive and East Coast Highway, police and fire officials said.

Emergency personnel responded to the incident at 4:30 p.m. and transported the cyclist to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo, according to Newport Beach fire Capt. Dan Chapman.

He said no other vehicles or people appeared to be involved in the accident.

Police are investigating the collision and did not issue any citations or take anyone into custody at the scene, Newport police Lt. Jay Short said.
