4 held in connection with sandwich theft
Four men were arrested Sunday in Newport Beach on suspicion of stealing a bag containing a sandwich — valued at $10 — from a parked car.
Oscar Iglesias, 25, of South Gate, Daniel Godinez, 23, and Edwin Yhuit, 27, both of Cudahy, and Daniel Garcia, 28, of Chula Vista, were arrested on suspicion of vehicle burglary and conspiracy, Newport Beach police spokeswoman Jennifer Manzella said.
Police received a call about 5:55 p.m. that a man — later identified by police as Iglesias — was seen removing a bag from a vehicle parked in the 600 block of Newport Center Drive, according to Manzella.
The car was locked but a window had been lowered, she said.
After grabbing the bag, Iglesias immediately got into a waiting vehicle, Manzella said, adding that
Godinez, Yhuit and Garcia were in the car.
The caller described the vehicle and gave a license plate number. Police stopped the vehicle at Bayside Drive and East Coast Highway, where the bag was recovered and the four men were arrested, according to Manzella.
