Car strikes jaywalker in Costa Mesa

An SUV struck and injured a 41-year-old pedestrian as she jaywalked in Costa Mesa, police said Tuesday.
Police and firefighters responded to a report at 11:49 p.m. Monday that a woman was hit while improperly crossing the southbound lanes in the 1600 block of Newport Boulevard, according to the Costa Mesa Police Department.
Police said the driver of the SUV, a Nissan Pathfinder, is a 36-year-old Huntington Beach resident.
The pedestrian, a Costa Mesa resident, was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, police said.
