A cigarette boat traveling at a high rate of speed hit another boat at the the Newport Harbor entrance, capsizing the other boat and injuring four people, an official said.
The 25-foot cigarette boat traveled over the other boat, which was either idle or moving slowly, at about 9:30 p.m., leaving four people with head, face, hip injuries and breathing problems, Newport Beach Fire Department Capt. Glenn White said in an email.
The four patients were taken to either Saddleback Memorial Medical Center or Hoag Hospital.
One of the injured passengers was unconscious when rescued but later regained consciousness, White said.
Deputies with the Orange County Sheriff’s Department were interviewing the three men aboard the cigarette boat Sunday night.
The speed limit in the harbor is 5 knots, according to White.
