An 85-year-old man killed while walking on a 73 Freeway off ramp in Newport Beach has been identified.
Thuy Nguyen of Anaheim was walking on the right side of the off ramp at MacArthur Boulevard about 10:02 p.m. Friday when the driver of a 2010 Toyota pick-up truck was exiting and Nguyen walked into the traffic lanes and into the Toyota’s path, according to reports from California Highway Patrol and the Orange County coroner’s office.
The Toyota’s driver, a 42-year-old Costa Mesa man, swerved left but was unable to avoid hitting Nguyen, according to the report.
Nguyen was taken to Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo where he died of his injuries at 12:46 a.m. Saturday.
No arrests were made.
