A man who went into cardiac arrest, then drove into the wall of a CVS store on Harbor Boulevard, died Thursday afternoon, Costa Mesa police said.
The 77-year-old Costa Mesa resident, whose name has not yet been released by the Orange County coroner’s office, was seen leaving the pharmacy’s drive-through window in the 2700 block of Harbor Boulevard before 4 p.m. Thursday.
Suddenly, his vehicle reportedly accelerated and crashed head-on into the west side of the building, a news release said.
The man was taken to Hoag Hospital while under cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead at 3:44 p.m.
The victim’s 69-year-old wife, who was riding in the front seat of the sedan, was taken to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana with non-life-threatening injuries.
