H.B. man dies after being run over multiple times

A Huntington Beach man died in Fontana early Sunday when he was struck on the road by as many as five vehicles, a spokeswoman for the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department said.

Victor Joseph Scallo, 44, died on San Bernardino Avenue near Commerce Street at 3:35 a.m.

Deputy Coroner Pamela Sokolik said he was possibly hit by a semi tractor-trailer and then several other vehicles, and that the first few drivers may not have realized they had struck a person.

Finally, a driver called police to report the collision, Sokolik said. Scallo was pronounced dead at the scene.
