Passenger arrested on suspicion of breaking taxi window

A passenger in a taxicab punched and cracked a window in the vehicle when the driver wouldn’t turn around at a red light, according to police.

Ryan Eric Nelson, 33, of Tustin was arrested on suspicion of malicious mischief, said Andi Querry, a crime prevention specialist with the Newport Beach Police Department.

The cabbie was at a red light, Querry said.

Nelson was arrested at Newport Boulevard and Via Lido about 2:03 a.m. Thursday, after the cab driver flagged down an officer.

The damage totaled about $200.
