Beaches open after sewer spill

A stretch of Orange County Coast has been reopened to public use after a sewage spill off Balboa Pier earlier this week closed some beaches, according to an official with the Orange County Environmental Health department.
A sewage spill from Ruby’s Diner at the end of the pier closed beaches 1,000 feet up and down the coast from the pier, said Mike Fennessy, a county environmental health official.
Beaches were closed from Tuesday through Thursday afternoon when beaches were opened at 2 p.m., Fennessy said.
About 500 gallons of sewage were spilt, according to Fennessy.
