Rick Warren to speak at Vanguard commencement

Saddleback Church’s founder will speak at Vanguard University’s undergraduate commencement ceremony May 7.

Pastor Rick Warren is slated to speak at the nonprofit private Pentecostal university at 55 Fair Drive in Costa Mesa.

Warren has written six books, including the “The Purpose Driven Church,” which was named one of the top 100 Christian books that changed the 20th century. He also gained national attention during the 2008 presidential campaign when Barack Obama and John McCain visited Saddleback to discuss issues.

In addition to founding the megachurch in Lake Forest, which draws in about 22,000 congregants weekly, Warren oversees congregations in 163 countries called the Purpose Driven Connection, a network of churches.
