DUI checkpoint to hit Newport
Newport Beach police will conduct a DUI checkpoint Friday from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.
Officers will be stationed on northbound Newport Boulevard at Finley Avenue, just before the exit from the Balboa Peninsula, stopping cars and checking for valid driver’s licenses or drivers under the influence.
The location was selected because of its proximity to bars and restaurants, officials said.
Though DUI checkpoints don’t typically result in more arrests, police officials said they educate the public and remind the public about police enforcement.
Funding for the checkpoint was provided by the state Office of Traffic Safety.
