Service for trainer Friday

A memorial service for Eric “Octopus” Norris, a Fountain Valley athletic trainer and mixed martial artist who died earlier this month in a boating accident, has been scheduled for Friday at Mile Square Regional Park.

The gathering will take place from 4 to 8 p.m., with the service beginning at 5 p.m. Norris’ friends, who posted the notice on a memorial website, asked that attendees wear casual garb and bring 4-by-6-inch photos of Norris if they have them. They also requested that mourners not bring flowers, though trees are acceptable, and bring blankets or beach chairs to sit on.

Norris, 30, died July 3 after a boat struck him in Lake Havasu in what authorities called an apparent hit-and-run. He worked as a trainer at Anytime Fitness in Fountain Valley.
