Discussion groups to meet
Laguna Beach Freethinkers Discussion Group meets from 3 to 4 p.m. every Friday. An open discussion group that emphasizes the positive aspects and advantages of open-mindedness. Discussion topics will be suggested by attendees. Free.
Braille Institute Monthly Support Meeting meets from 1 to 3 p.m. the first Tuesday of each month. The Braille Institute offers a monthly support group for those suffering from some form of vision loss. The topic for June is “Getting fit and staying active.” Free.
Coffee Talk, 10 to 11 a.m. on the second and fourth Mondays. A free support group led by Laguna residents and facilitator Kathleen Wenger, LMFT, and co-facilitator Debbie Seitz, MA. Participants will be offered a supportive atmosphere where frustrations, coping skills, and helping tips can be shared. Participants at the bi-weekly meeting will use the suggested topics as a starting point for discussions on issues of interest to all. Alzheimer’s Caregiving group meets from noon to 1:30 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month. Participants will discuss how to recognize the early signs of Alzheimer’s and dementia and share strategies with dealing with loved ones who are affected by the disease. Facilitator is Vic Mazmanian, Alzheimer Assn. volunteer and support group leader. A fee is charged. For more information, call (949) 497-2441.
Medicare and insurance issues counseling, offered noon to 2:15 p.m. on the fourth Monday of the month. The Council on Aging, Orange County HICAP Program, provides free one-on-one counseling and advocacy with Medicare and related insurance coverage in the Wellness Room at the Susi Q Senior Center.
