A Huntington Beach man was convicted Monday of stalking and threatening a police detective.
Brian Dopler, 27, was found guilty of felony attempted criminal threats and felony stalking of a Huntington Beach Police Department detective between Jan. 8 and Feb. 10, according to the Orange County district attorney’s office.
He faces a maximum sentence of three years and four months in prison.
Dopler called and left more than a dozen harassing phone messages for Det. Gary Kim in January and February. The messages were full of swear words, and he told Kim that the detective was being followed.
In a Feb. 10 message, Dopler threatened to kill Kim and any other police officer who followed him.
Kim began investigating a case against Dopler in May 2009 for stalking and violating a protective order of which he was charged and sentenced.
Dopler is expected to be sentenced at 9 a.m. June 11 in Courtroom C-16 at the Central Justice Center in Santa Ana.
