City seeks payment cap in girl’s death

An insurance company representing Huntington Beach is asking to cap the city’s liability to $26,100 in the death of an 11-year-old Junior Lifeguard, city officials said.
Navigator’s Insurance filed a petition Friday to limit the city’s liability to $26,100, or the cost of the boat in the accident, said City Attorney Jennifer McGrath.
Junior Lifeguard Allyssa Squirrell was killed after being struck by a rescue boat during a routine training exercise July 14.
Her family is suing the city for negligence and filed a lawsuit in March.
The Orange County district attorney’s office ruled her death an accident after an investigation and will not be filing criminal charges against the boat’s driver.
