NAIA Tournament
RIVERSIDE — Vanguard University split two games on the first day of the five-team, double-elimination group tournament Tuesday at Cal Baptist.
The Lions defeated Huntington of Indiana, 6-3, to open the day, then lost, 6-1, to host Cal Baptist.
Vanguard (33-19) plays today at 3 p.m. against the winner of the morning elimination game between Huntington and College of Idaho.
Brandon Godfrey allowed five hits and three runs through seven innings to earn the win against Huntington.
Eric Krzysiak and Brandon Pesante had home runs for the Lions, while Pesante and Zach Leighton (two for four) had two runs batted in apiece.
Vanguard had just four hits against Cal Baptist, two by Brandon Young.
Tyson Leighton had a hit and an RBI for Vanguard in the second game, after going two for five with an RBI in the opening win.
Jacob Domingos also had two hits in the opener.
Taylor Siemens pitched a complete game and is now 10-1 for CBU (46-13).
