Clark, Dufault honored
UC Irvine sophomore opposite Carson Clark was named first-team All-American by the American Volleyball Coaches Assn.
UCI junior outside hitter Jordan DuFault earned second-team accolades.
Clark becomes the sixth UCI player to be named to the first team after earning second-team recognition in 2009. Clark is third nationally in kills with a 5.04 per-set average and leads the nation in service aces with 50. He also ranks third in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation in points (5.81).
Clark set the UCI single-season records for aces (50) and attack attempts (1,259). The first-team All-MPSF performer’s 564 kills rank fourth in UCI single-season annals.
DuFault repeats as a second-team choice. He was second on the team in kills (4.06) and points (4.70) and topped the squad with 243 digs. He had 483 kills this season, including at least 10 in 25 of 30 matches for the Anteaters (15-15), who finished eighth in the conference and lost in the first round of the MPSF Tournament.
He was a second-team All-MPSF pick.
The duo led the Anteaters in kills in all but four matches this year. UCI is the only team to boast of two players who have recorded 30 or more kills in a match this season. DuFault had 30 vs. USC in the first meeting and Clark had 30 against the Trojans in the second meeting.
The Anteaters, NCAA champions in 2007 and 2009, have had 14 All-Americans since 1997.
