Bergman earns laurels
UC Irvine baseball pitcher Christian Bergman received three more honors from baseball media outlets for his near-perfect performance against UC Davis on Saturday.
Bergman was named to the College Baseball Foundation’s “National All-Star Lineup,” was tabbed a National Player of the Week by CollegeBaseballInsider.com and was voted a Primetime Performer by CollegeBaseball360.com.
Bergman faced the minimum 27 batters in a one-hit complete-game shutout of the Aggies to clinch the Big West series win. The senior standout yielded a leadoff hit, and after the Anteater defense caught the Aggie runner stealing, Bergman proceeded to retire the next 26 batters he faced, using just 89 pitches in his first career shutout.
Bergman struck out six to improve to 4-2. After allowing a fly-ball out to right field to lead off the sixth inning, he did not allow a ball out of the infield.
