Newport Harbor High senior setter Jackson Carmack has committed to play volleyball for UCLA.
Carmack had 105 assists, 19 digs and four blocks in two five-set matches last week.
The Sailors, ranked No. 7 in the CIF Southern Section Division I coaches’ poll, beat No. 4-ranked Edison Tuesday, when Carmack had 55 assists and seven digs.
He had 50 assists and 12 digs in a loss to Fountain Valley on Friday.
Carmack had 47 assists in a five-set win against Santa Margarita April 17 to help the Sailors finish third at the Karch Kiraly Tournament of Champions in Santa Barbara. Carmack was named to the all-tournament team.
Newport Harbor (13-8, 4-2 in the Sunset League) has a crucial match today, when the Sailors play host to Esperanza, which is 6-0 in league, at 5:45 p.m.
Former Sailors are not strangers to UCLA. There are three from Newport Harbor on the Bruins’ squad, including Kyle Caldwell, Brett Perrine and Weston Dunlap.
