NEWPORT COAST — Sean Vogel smashed a three-run triple in the bottom of the second to lead the Sage Hill School baseball team to a 3-1 Academy League win over rival St. Margaret’s Tuesday.

A.J. Wolfson struck out five, as he gave up one hit and one earned run in five innings. Alex Jimenez shut out the Tartans to earn his first save of the season for Sage Hill (8-4, 5-1 in league).

The Lightning play at St. Margaret’s Friday.

BASEBALL

CORONA DEL MAR — Pitcher Andrew McCormack improved to 3-2 after striking out five and allowing two earned runs in six innings in the Pacific Coast League game Tuesday.

Brian Ford had three runs batted in with a double in his two-for-three day, while Will Morrow launched a two-run home run for the Sea Kings (7-10, 4-2 in league).

Clark Cashion went two for four with a home run, while Parker Werline went two for four with a double. Josh Harrison was two for two with an RBI and Michael Borchard had two hits as well. Chase Carlile had two RBIs.

The Sea Kings will play at Irvine Friday at 3:15 p.m.

NEWPORT BEACH — Tanner Trauthen and Josh Starnes both shot one-over-par 36 to share medalist honors in a battle of Pacific Coast League unbeatens at Newport Beach Country Club Tuesday.

Mike Moorhead shot 37, John Davenport carded a 38 and Brian Mull shot 40 for the Sea Kings (12-1, 5-0 in league).

HUNTINGTON BEACH — The Sailors’ Travis Russell shot a one-under-par 34 in the Sunset League match at Meadowlark Golf Club Tuesday.

Erickson Kline carded a 35, while Eli Gomez, Mychael Clark and Marcus Kiel each shot 38 for Newport Harbor (9-3, 3-1 in league).

CHINO — Jake Knapp shot five-over-par 41 to earn medalist honors for the Eagles in the Orange Coast League match at the El Prado Butterfield Stage course Tuesday.

Aaron Wood (42), Jake Stone (42), Spencer Roberts (43) and Junior Ramirez (44) also scored for Estancia (4-9, 4-2 in league), which will play against Calvary Chapel today at Costa Mesa Country Club’s Mesa Linda course.

NEWPORT BEACH — Cody Caldwell had 13 kills, Rusty Sary added 11 and Jackson Carmack chipped in 29 assists and eight digs in the Sailors’ 25-20, 25-15, 25-17 Sunset League home triumph Tuesday.

Newport Harbor, ranked No. 8 in the CIF Southern Section Division I coaches’ poll, improved to 8-6, 2-1 in league.

The Tars visit Marina Thursday.

IRVINE — John Christian had 12 kills to help lead the Sea Kings to a 25-10, 25-14, 25-11 Pacific Coast League

Jack Reed had five kills, Remy Lamons had four kills and Joe Ctvrtlik contributed 18 assists and two aces for CdM (11-8, 3-0 in league), which is ranked No. 5 in the CIF Southern Section Division I coaches’ poll.

The Sea Kings play host to San Juan Hills Friday.

SANTA ANA — Senior Kohl Jones had 15 kills and 15 digs for the visiting Eagles in the 25-17, 25-22, 13-25, 20-25, 15-11 Orange Coast League setback Tuesday.

Tyler Sullivan had 40 assists and Frank Mittner added 11 kills for the Eagles (0-2 in league).

Sage Hill def. Whitney

CERRITOS — Mattias Russo-Larsson posted 21 kills, 18 digs and two blocks to lead the Lightning to a 25-21, 16-25, 25-22, 26-28, 19-17 Academy League win Tuesay.

Cole Kirby had 14 kills and 15 digs. Freshman setter Kent Kawaguchi had 46 assists, six kills and six digs. Chris Zadra had nine kills and three solo blocks for Sage Hill (10-8, 3-0 in league.

The Lightning will play Thursday at home against Brethren Christian.

CORONA DEL MAR — Shane Korber won 18 of 19 games in singles for the Sea Kings in the Pacific Coast League match Tuesday.

Seniors Matt Fisher and Karl Fletcher also dropped just one game at No. 1 doubles for CdM (11-1, 4-1 in league), ranked No. 4 in the CIF Southern Section Division I coaches’ poll.

The Sea Kings play at No. 2-ranked Peninsula today.

SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO — Alex Koeberle, who returned from a rotator cuff injury, swept at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-3, 6-3, for the Lightning in the Academy League match Tuesday.

Sage Hill’s Denis Cirit also swept, at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-4, 6-3. The No. 1 doubles team of Alex Manolakas and Kevin Marshack won twice, 6-0, 6-2 and dropped a 6-7 set for Sage Hill (4-10, 2-2 in league).

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Craig McKennon and Greg Brostek won two of three doubles sets to highlight the visiting Sailors in the Sunset League match Tuesday.

Newport Harbor is 6-4, 2-2 in league.

NEWPORT BEACH — Riley Robinson, Ritter Hagadorn, Daniel Apple and Jake Turner had two goals each in the Sunset League game Tuesday.

Robinson had two assists and Chase Nott added one goal for Newport (6-5, 3-0 in league). Goalie Jim Reed had eight saves and Zach Badya had five saves.

IRVINE — Ryan Mix and Casey Mix had three goals apiece to lead 12 Sea Kings who scored in the Pacific Coast League road game Monday.

Senior Randall Nelson had two goals and five assists for CdM (18-2, 10-1).

NEWPORT HARBOR — Jack Yeager won two events and was a part of two winning relays in the Sunset League meet Tuesday.

Yeager won the 50-yard freestyle in 21.39 seconds and 100 butterfly in 54.60, and was on the 200 free relay and 200 medley relay that touched first.

Matt Russell won the 100 free in 48.71 and also helped in the 400 free relay victory.

Farrel South finished first in the 100 backstroke (1:05.37), while Blake Kelly won the 200 individual medley (2:06.26) and as on the 400 free relay and 200 medley relay teams.

The Sailors will compete at rival Corona del Mar Thursday.

GIRLS’ SWIMMING

Los Alamitos 89,

Newport Harbor 81

NEWPORT BEACH — Casey Duckworth won the 500-yard freestyle in 5 minutes, 6.60 seconds and 200 individual medley in 2:09.80, and contributed to the 400 free relay win in the Sunset League meet Tuesday.

Kate Klippert won the 100 free in 54.14 and contributed was on the Sailors’ 400 free relay team. Madison McLaren won the 200 free (1:56.76) and was also on the 400 free relay team.
