The Boys & Girls Club expects to begin breaking ground on a project that will make it the first club in the state to be on a college campus.

The Huntington Valley Boys & Girls Club is expected to begin construction on a child-development preschool at Golden West College for the first phase of its Building Dreams campaign.

The campaign will replace the existing child-development center with a new facility on a 3-acre portion of Golden West and build a new two-story Boys & Girls Club and gymnasium during the second phase.

The expansion will allow the club to expand its services to the northeast portion of Huntington Beach.

The preschool will be open to children 6 months to 5 years old, and special enrollment opportunities and scholarships will be made available for children of Golden West students.

The preschool will be named after Robert Mayer, the first major contributor to the project with a $500,000 donation.

The center is expected to open in January.
