Police identify women from Alcala’s photos

A number of women have been identified from photographs taken by serial killer Rodney James Alcala, officials said.

The Huntington Beach Police Department has identified 20 women from more than 100 photos released to the public in March, said Capt. Chuck Thomas at a City Council meeting Monday.

The photographs were found in a storage locker in Seattle that Alcala tried to keep hidden from authorities.

The pictures, taken before 1979, show women, as well as girls and two boys.

Some of the subjects were apparently posing while others appear to be unaware they are being photographed.

The department has received more than 400 phone calls about the photographs and countless e-mails, Thomas said.

Authorities released the pictures in hopes of identifying any other victims.
